Obituary

Little Chute - Eugene L. Berghuis, 83, Little Chute, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the place he called home the last three years, Apple Creek Place, with his niece Kara by his side. Gene was born on March 7, 1937 to Leo and Hilda (Weiland) Berghuis in Little Chute. He was a veteran having served in the US Army. Gene worked for over 42 years at the Kimberly Mill until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed traveling and took frequent trips to Europe with his cherished friends. Gene was an avid sports fan especially of the Little Chute youth and high school sports. He was also a big Brewers fan.

Gene was a lifelong member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Community, Little Chute. He was also a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258 and St. John's Athletic Association, receiving the "Top Man Award" in 1989 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1999.

Gene is survived by his sister-in-law Carol Berghuis, niece and nephews; Tim (Molly) Berghuis, Exton, PA, Kara (John) Kramer, Little Chute; and Dave (Cindy) Berghuis, Farmington, MN; great nieces and great nephews; Amanda, Jake, and Jordan Berghuis, Luke (Lauren) Kramer, Katie (Will) Dougherty, Emily and Ben Berghuis, other relatives and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry Berghuis.

The funeral liturgy for Gene will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 4:00 PM at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY, 323 S. Pine St., with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the time of the mass at church. In keeping with the current health pandemic the funeral will be livestreamed on the church's website for those unable to attend. The family would like to thank the staff at Apple Creek Place for taking care of Gene through the years, as well as the medical team at St. Elizabeth Hospital during his recent hospitalization.
