- Anna Marie Zimmer was born 14 October, 1928 in Pecos, Texas to
Walter Grady Wainscott (Red) and Ethel Lois (Jackson) Wainscott
She had two sisters, Mamie Lois (Wainscott) Hermann and Ina Faye Wainscott.
The family moved frequently and Marie attended 27 different schools in her 9 years of school. She went to work as an engraver for Leonard Brothers at the age of 15. She became a Civil Air Patrol Cadet in 1946 and was attending flying lessons at Meacham Field while taking classes to become a nurse when she met and married Percy James Zimmer on December 29, 1947. They were married until Percy's death on April 28, 1996.
Mom was very generous in love and affection to her family and friends. Her sewing skills exceeded expectations, and she got plenty of practice with four daughters and a son; everything we owned was hand made by Mom with the exception of our shoes and socks.
Mother finally was able to consider hobbies as her children grew up; she enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, calligraphy, photography, and even took a few classes at Mountain View. She was a wonderful Mom, and most of all, a wonderful witness for our Savior, Christ Jesus. She was well known by the kids at Southwestern Assembly of God College for her yummy Sunday Dinners, and her willingness to cook for as many as could fit in the car to drive down from Waxahachie during the years Suzi and Phyllis attended.
She later distinguished herself in our community as one of the original workers in organizing The National Sheriffs' Association Neighborhood Watch program. She was a volunteer for the Original McGruff Safety Campaign for Children, the Grand Prairie Neighborhood Watch, and a staunch volunteer of the Republican Party , having voted even in the last presidential election at the age of 88.
After moving so much as a child, Mom set her roots in Grand Prairie, and chose to live out the rest of her life in our fair city; She was a charter member, and taught Sunday School for over 20 years at East Side Assembly of God / later renamed Abundant Life Assembly of God. She volunteered at three different level of school at one time.
Marie is survived by 4 children; Suzanna and Cornell Venters, Peter Salicco, William Zimmer, Bonnie and Patrick Mailhiot, Mary Lou and Gary Stewart; her sister Lois Hermann, 17 Grand Children, 27 Great Grand Children and 2 Great Great Grand Children; and two sisters in law, Annie and Carol Zimmer. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grand Mother, and Great Great Grand Mother and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, four brothers, two daughters, and her husband of 48 years.
