    • Helen Maas, age 79, of Chilton, Wisconsin, died on Sat., Feb. 26, 2000, at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.

      The former Helen Stedjee was born April 28, 1920 in the Town of Maine, Outaganiie County, daughter of the late George Buet Stedjee and Hazel (McCoy) Stedjee.

      Helen Stedjee married Hubert M. Maas on Oct. 5, 1949 in the Town of Maine, Outagarnie County. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1994.

      She farmed with her husband in Kewaunee and Oconto Counties. She was later employed by the Foley Co. in Chilton until the time of her retirement. Helen loved poetry, quilting, baking, gardening, African violets, and her family. She also loved people, visiting and corresponding with family and friends. She was member of Peace United Church of Christ in Potter.

      She was survived by nine children, Jonathan (Karen) Maas of Kaukauna, David Maas of Hinsdale, IL, Neil Maas of Appleton, Janet (Keith) Stecker of Hilbert, Kenneth (Shelby) Maas, of Falling Waters, W.VA, Patricia (James) Schaffer of Hilbert, James Maas of Wisconsin Rapids, Rosanne (Lyle) Karls of Jericho, and Robin (Jarrod) Thomas of Fayetteville, AR, 27 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a sister, Alice (Darryll) Brugger of Shiocton, a brother, Gordon (Bernice) Stedjee of Black Creek; and three sisters-in-law, Rose Captain of Appleton, Evelyn Maas of Madison, and Rachel Maas, of Maribel.

      She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Maas, three sisters-in-law, Elsie (Paul) Johnson, Bernice Maas and Lillian (Leroy) Knoespel; and three brothers-in-law, John Maas, George Maas, Constant Captain.

      Funeral services were on Wed., March 1, 2000 at Peace United Church of Christ in potter with the Rev. Marc Axelrod as officiant. Spring burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Chilton.

      Wicting Funeral Home in Chilton assisted the family with arrangements.
