  • Notes
    • Tom Sorby, age 54, passed away at his home on Monday, January 2, 2012. Tom was born in Merrill on July 28, 1957, the son of the late William and Joann (Groth) Sorby. He held various jobs over the years, but most recently had been employed as a machinist by Voith in Neenah, where he met his future wife, Nyla. The couple married in 1996. In his younger years, Tom was quite the pool player, having won his fair share of trophies. From 1974 until 1977, Tom served in the United States Army, and was stationed for a time in Greece. He also was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, and NASCAR. After his disability he spent more time at home and became an accomplished Wii Golf player. Many will recall Tom's handyman skills - he was a great do-it-yourselfer, and knew a little bit about everything.

He is survived by his wife: Nyla Sorby of Kaukauna; two daughters: Heather (Nathan) Hinz of Merrill and Katie Quaintance and her fiancé Craig Johnson of Madison; a son: Mark (Melisa) Quaintance of Appleton; a grandson: Conner Quaintance; and a granddaughter who is expected to join Heather's family in April; a brother: Will (Yvonne) Sorby of Greenville; and a sister: Sheryl Sorby of Milwaukee and her companion Julie Gibbs. There are also several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and by Nyla's parents: Nyles and Lyda Manley.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Full military honors for Tom will take place at the funeral home on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
