- DODGEVILLE - Ann H. Korback, age 84, of Dodgeville, died on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. The former Ann Sablak was born on May 1, 1918, in Mifflin, to Joseph and Josephine (Kresoia) Sablak.
She married John A. Korback of Dodgeville on Sept. 5, 1939. The couple farmed north of Dodgeville until retiring to Dodgeville in 1965. John preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1977. Ann was respected and well known for her strong work ethic and willingness to help others.
She was dedicated to her church and enjoyed the friendship of many, as her greatest joy was to be busy and whenever possible be with others.
She never permitted age to be a barrier in maintaining her home or being a part of numerous community interests. Her independence and polite determination will be long remembered by all who knew her and will now miss her.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Dodgeville Senior Citizens and a strong supporter of the Apostolate to the Handicapped.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joseph Sablak; a sister-in-law, Marion Sablak; and a brother-in-law, Elfred Lewis.
Ann is survived by two sisters, Marie Sablak of Pomona, Calif., and Katherine Lewis of Madison; a brother, George Sablak of Lone Rock; as well as nieces, nephews, godchildren and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Father Paul Ugo Arinze will officiate with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
