Pauline Mary VanDehey, 93, a resident of the Hillsboro community died Sunday morning, December 7, 2008 at the Pomeroy Lodge in Beaverton.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the St Matthew Catholic Church 427 SE 3rd Ave in Hillsboro
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 Am on Saturday December 13, 2008 at the St Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Funeral Mass to be held at the St Matthew Parish Center
Rite of Christian Burial and Entombment will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Valley Memorial Park in Hillsboro
Pauline was born on May 26, 1915 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. She was one of five children born to Frank and Pauline (Prevsce) Pleshnik. In 1920 she moved with her family to their farm on Dixie Mountain North of North Plains. She was raised on the family farm and attended Dixie Mountain School. Following her education she had worked for Birdseye Cannery in Hillsboro and also had picked crops for the local farmers.
She met her future husband at a dance at the Pumpkin Ridge Grange. Following a courtship she was united in marriage to Vincent "Fritz" VanDehey on October 17, 1939 in Verboort, Oregon. Following their marriage they made their home in Hillsboro until 1943 when they bought their farm were they have resided since.
Pauline was first and foremost a mother to her five children. Pauline had also helped her husband on the family farm raising beef, strawberries and boysen berries. She was one of the first women in Oregon to obtain a real estate license, Pauline operated VanDehey Reality for over 30 years
Among her special interest she enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. She traveled with her husband to China, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Alaska, New Zealand and Hawaii. She also enjoyed dancing horse racing and skiing. Pauline was an avid bowler and bowled until she was 90 years old, she was a life time member of the Hillsboro Grange and sold insurance for them. She was also a lifetime member of the Jacktown Women`s Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents her husband of 65 years, Fritz, three siblings and a daughter-in-law; Kay VanDehey.
Survivors include her children and their spouses; Sharon and Jim Walling of Vancouver, WA, Harold and Mary VanDehey of Hillsboro, OR, Dale and Carol VanDehey of Hillsboro, OR, Larry VanDehey of Hillsboro, OR, Janice Enos and her husband Paul Schmidt both of Carlton, OR. a sister; Freida Juola of East Lancing, Michigan, 13 grandchildren and their spouses and 23 great grandchildren.
