    • Appleton - Maria V. (Niceler) Godschalx, age 96, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2018 at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center after a short illness. She was born October 10, 1921 to the late Marvin and Johanna (Subride) Niceler in Hamilton, Ohio and served in the Woman's Army Corps during WWII. Maria was very pleased to be included in the Old Glory Honor Flight in 2010.

Maria was very proud of her family. She enjoyed music, dance, theater, crossword puzzles and current events. She was an avid Packer and Brewers fan and rarely missed a game. She also enjoyed attending the Timber Rattlers games. Maria was outgoing and friendly but was also a feisty independent woman who had a quirky sense of humor. She always enjoyed a good joke or laugh shared with her many friends including those at Appleton Retirement Community.

Maria is survived by her daughters Kathleen (Gruber), Colette (Rohm), Cheryl (Fuller), favorite sons-in-law Richard Rohm and Rick Fuller, fourteen grandchildren, 15 ½ great-grandchildren, special friends Howard and Kay Burroughs and family, and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her sons Mark and Raymond.

A Memorial Service for Maria will be held at 1PM, Sunday, August 19 at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11AM until the time of service.

A special thanks to the staffs at Appleton Retirement Community, Appleton VA clinic, especially Dr. Loomans and Jeanette, Madison and Milwaukee VA Hospitals for exceptional care and the Outagamie County Veterans Service Office and Jean George.
