- Black River Falls, Wis. - Valerie D. Lancour, 69, of Black River Falls died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
She was born Jan. 7, 1937, in La Crosse to Donald and Evelyn (Shelmidine) Holthaus. She attended Jefferson Grade School and graduated from Logan High School in 1954.
On June 3, 1961, she married Eugene "Gene" Lancour at Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church in rural La Crosse. Valerie worked as a dental assistant in La Crosse for many years before the couple moved to Melrose in 1964. Valerie was an active Melrose Legion Auxiliary member and was involved in Ducks Unlimited of Black River Falls for many years. She also worked for her parents at "Lucky H" Riding Apparel in La Crosse and at Wal-Mart in Black River Falls.
Survivors are her husband, Gene; a son, Lance, and his special friend, Lisa Miller; her mother, Evelyn Holthaus, whom has been living with Val and Gene for the last year; a sister, Sharon (Allen) Twinde of Chaseburg; and two brothers, Marcellus (Barbara) Holthaus and Richard (Evelyn) Holthaus, both of La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Holthaus, on Sept. 21, 2000, and her grandparents.
Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, from Little Norway Lutheran Church, Hwy. 54 West, rural Black River Falls, with the Rev. Calvin Thoreson officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Melrose (Wis.) Chapel, and from 10 a.m. to services on Tuesday at the church.
