- Leona M. (Grassl) Trask, 95, Bend, Oregon, formerly of Appleton, Wisconsin and Cromwell, Ct, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2011. She was the widow of the late Roger Trask (1920-2009). Leona was born September 19, 1916 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mayme Grassl. Following high school she attended business college and later joined the US Navy (W.A.C.S.) during WWII doing bookkeeping in the Washington DC area until the end of the war. Leona and her new husband Roger moved to Connecticut to work and raise her family, moving back to Appleton in 1986, and later to Bend, Oregon to be near their daughter Judith. Leona is retired from the State of Ct Department of Transportation and the Rocky Hill State Veterans Home and Hospital in their bookkeeping departments.
She was survived by her son Thomas and his wife Elaine Trask of Berlin Ct.; and her daughter Judith Trask of Bend Or. She is also survived by her granddaughter Sara and her husband Michael Florio of Redding Ct and her grandson Ryan Trask of Hartford Ct. In addition to be an amazing mother, Leona's interests were unsurpassed in interior decorating and furniture restoration. She was also a volunteer for St Mary's Church in Appleton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, Friday, December 9, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton with Rev. James Leary officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to mass also at the church on Friday. Military honors will follow the Mass and interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Appleton.
