      Caroline Sommers

Word was received in this city by August Gottwald, that his sister, Mrs. Stephan Sommers, of Forest Junction, who had been stricken with apoplexy on Friday evening passed away on Saturday morning at five o'clock. Mrs. Sommers was in her usual good health on Friday and during the day attended to her household duties. In the evening she partook of supper with members of her family and shortly after was stricken with apoplexy, lapsing into unconsciousness in which state she remained until she passed away. A physician was summoned hurriedly but his services were of no avail. Her death coming in the fullness of health and being wholly unlooked for was a great shock to her family and all who knew her throughout the community.

Caroline Cecelia Gottwald was a native of Germany, where she was born Nov. 21, 1847. At the age of twenty-one years she came to America with her brother, August Gottwald, of Chilton and shortly after was married to Stephan Sommers and located on a farm near Forest Junction on which she lived until stricken by death.

The deceased woman was well known throughout that section of the county and well liked by everybody. She was of an exemplary character, companionable and kind and this endeared her to her family and friends. She was the guiding spirit of the home which has been suddenly plunged into sorrow by her death and in which her memory will ever be cherished.

She leaves to mourn the death of a good wife and mother, a husband, four daughters, Mrs. S. H. Barnard of Brillion, Mrs. Chas. Schaefer of Orlando, Oklahoma, Mrs. Edw. Jansch of Dundas and Mrs. George Arns of Forrest Junction, and two sons, John and Michael residing at home.
The funeral was held from St. Mary's Catholic Church at Hilbert on Wednesday morning, Rev. Fr. M. Oswald celebrating Requiem Mass and the remains being laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
