- After a long illness, Mrs. William Rutten passed away early last Thursday morning at the farm home about six miles northeast of Palmer.
Lula May Gelwick Rutten was born February 28, 1878 near Mount Carroll, Ill., and was called from this earth July 11 at her home near Palmer, Nebraska, at the age of 62 years, 4 months and 13 days.
She was united in marriage to William Rutten at York, Nebraska on February 23, 1902. To this union were born eight children, seven of whom survive their mother. Pearle Shryer, Lisco, Nebr.; Theodore and Oris, Palmer, Nebr; Donald, Lyman, Nebr; Tillie Johnson, Oshkosh, Nebraska; Glenn, Mitchell, Nebr; Merle Conaway, Inland, Nebr. One daughter, Mary, passed away at the age of six.
Mrs. Rutten had nine brothers and sisters, four of whom, Ellis, Elizabeth, Bird and John preceded her in death. Those of her brothers and sisters remaining are: Schulyer Gelwick, David City, Nebr; Gertrude Ward, Rico, Colo; Anna Holste, Julesburg, Colo; Stella Sharp, Denver, Colo; Philip Gelwick, location unknown.
She leaves to mourn her departure besides her husband, children and brothers and sisters, 22 grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Rutten was a patient and cheerful sufferer in her long illness. No matter how painful her affliction she could always meet her friends with a smile.
She was a devout Christian, a member of the Palmer Church of Christ. She has departed to receive the crown of life which is the reward of the faithful.
