- Ethel Hable Derks, age 94, of Bloomer, passed away February 22, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System Chippewa Valley in Bloomer.
Ethel was born in the Town of Woodmohr on September 21, 1919, to Ed and Anna (Sarauer) Bischel. She married Theodore Hable June 7, 1939, at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Bloomer. They farmed until 1969 and moved to the city of Bloomer. She worked at Mareks Rest Home for 9 ½ years. She also worked several years as a cook at the White Pine, Main Street Café, Gateway, and Oaside.
Ethel was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church, N.A.I.M, and P.C.C.W. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and both the Bloomer and Cooks Valley senior citizens groups. She attended daily mass since the fall of 1974. She loved to play cards and belonged to euchre, sheepshead, 500, and pinochle clubs. Ethel cleaned church, washed cassocks, loved flowers and birds, crocheted, and led rosary before mass and at funeral homes. She handmade over 27,000 rosaries, with wire ad beads, cord and beads, and crocheted. These rosaries are sprinkled all over the world through the missions.
Theodore passed away July 26, 1981. She later married Henry Derks on July 2, 1984. Henry passed away July 10, 1987.
She is survived by five sons, Don (Claudia) Hable of Chippewa Falls, Jerry Hable, Art (Dawnette) Hable, Kenneth (Karla) Hable all of Bloomer, and Eugene Hable of Colfax; four daughters, Helen (Charles) Hagen of Chippewa Falls, Rita Bellinger of Chetek, Gianna (Ken Holmes) Rosewood of Monroe, WA, and Judy (Al) Nimtz of Bloomer; two step sons, George (Joanne) Derks of Eau Claire, and Theodore (Linda) Derks of Chippewa Falls; five step-daughters, Helen Bowe of Chippewa Falls, Kathy (Neil) Hasselwander of Eau Claire, Joyce (Bob) Rogalski of Stevens Point, Rosie Derks of Manitowoc, WI, and Mary (Charlie) Riley of Loretto, MN; step-son-in-law, Art Connor of Wausau, WI; step-daughters-in-law, Henrietta Derks of Bloomer, and Dale Derks of Genoa, WI; one brother, Laurell (Roberta) of Trevor, WI; five sisters, Bernice Yohnk of Bloomer, Cecelia (Don) Schieber of North Prairie, WI, Janette Johnson of Eau Claire, Delaine (Wes) Zastrow of Lomria, WI, and Madonna (Jerry) Harmon of Lakeland, MN, two sisters-in-law, Josie Bischel of Milwaukee and Lucy Hable of Chippewa Falls; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 45 step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two sons, Norbert and Joseph Hable; three brothers, Vernon Bischel, Jerome Bischel, and Donald Bischel. Three step-sons, Norman Derks, John Derks, and James Derks; two step-sons-in-law, Ron Poirer and Luke Bowe; one sister-in-law, Lucille Bischel; two brothers in law, Marvis Yohnk and Victor Johnson; two step-daughters, Verona Poirer, and Delores Connor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014, at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Bloomer with Father John Potaczek celebrating the mass. Burial will be held at St. Pauls South Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Schriver-Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to Mass, also at the funeral home. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Thursday and Christian Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to St. Pauls Catholic Church in Bloomer.
