    • Appleton - Yvonne Emilie Van Elzen, age 85, of Darboy, passed away June 15th, 2020.

      She was born in Basel, Switzerland to Maria and Louis Walter on July 17th, 1934. Yvonne grew up in St. Louis, France. In 1953 she worked as a Governess in London for a year. Returning home via ship on the English Channel, she met Tom Van Elzen. They were married July 11, 1955. Tom and Yvonne were married 64 years and had 4 children.

      Teaching French was her passion. Yvonne taught at FVTC for 15 years and at two elementary schools. Yvonne also taught private lessons along with being a translator for Kimberly Clark for numerous years. She also worked at the Little Mermaid, a Scandinavian gift shop. She was involved in the International Club where many long-time friendships evolved. Tom and Yvonne traveled extensively, including all 48 continental US states, 32 countries and 6 islands.

      Yvonne is survived by her husband, Thomas Van Elzen. Her children Michelle (John) Schulz, Jackie (Rick) Schmidt, and daughter-in-law, Nori Van Elzen. Her grandchildren Yvette (Sean) Tobin, Stephanie (Todd) Killingsworth, Patrick Schmidt and his special friend Breanna Tofteland, Nathan Schmidt, and Lance Van Elzen. Her great grandchildren Isabella, John, and Thomas Tobin and Lauren and Cole Killingsworth.

      Yvonne is preceded in death by her two sons, Mark and Patrick, her parents Louis and Maria Walter, in-laws Jack and Angela Van Elzen, numerous brothers and sisters in-law, relatives in France, and close friends.

      The family of Yvonne wishes to extend sincere thanks to her French family, whom she stayed extremely involved with, particularly her cousin Marie-Rose who she loved like a sister. Doctors Lenz, Panzer, Burney and their staff, personal caregiver Mary Kalies, the wonderful staff of Prairie Homes, the staff of St. Elizabeth Hospital, Michelle Graf of Care Patrol, Diana at St. Paul Home, Lynn with hospice, and all who spent time to sit and visit with her.

      Funeral services for Yvonne will be held at Wichmann Funeral Home, 1592 Oneida St. Menasha, on Friday, July 17th at 2:00 PM with Deacon Bruce Corey officiating. Visitation at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Interment to follow at Holy Angels Cemetery in Darboy. For those unable to attend, the funeral service can be viewed via livestream by visiting Yvonne's obituary on wichmannfuneralhomes.com at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 17th. Face masks are to be worn at your discretion.

      Yvonne retained dual citizenship as she loved 2 countries… The US and FRANCE.
