- Willis H. Babb, 92, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012 with his loving family at his side at Rennes Helath Care Center, a day before his 93rd birthday. He was born on Dec. 5, 1919 in Appleton to the late Willis and Lora (Smolk) Babb. Will graduated from Appleton High School in 1938. He married Eileen Babino on Oct. 27, 1941 and she preceded him in death in 2001. Willis proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Two years ago he had the opportunity to travel with the Honor Flight and it was one of the highlights of his later years. He owned and operated Babb's Men's Wear and also Babb's Camper Sales. After retiring and closing the business he worked part-time at Younkers for many years. Will was an active member of the VFW Post #2778, American Legion Post #38, Knights of Pythias, all of Appleton, Beja Shrine of Appleton and Green Bay and the Mason's Waverly Lodge.
Family and friends gathered last Saturday, to celebrate with Willis his 93rd birthday.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Cathy (Pete) Hahn, Fond du Lac; a son, Dennis (Mary) Babb, Appleton; Two granddaughters: Holly (Jason) Brenner and their children: Audrey, Jack and Kate; Heather (Joe) Nett and their children: Isaac, Jonah and Griffin; brothers and sister-in-law: Aloysious "Bud" McHugh, Thomas (Audrey) McHugh, Ralph (Cathy) McHugh, Daniel McHugh and Mary Klein and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen "Irish"; two brothers: Orville and Carlton; a sister, Helen Jean Crane; two brothers-in-law: Dick Klein and Jerry Babino and a sister-in-law, Amy McHugh.
Funeral Services for Willis will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at 12:00PM "Noon" at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Ryan officiating. Friends may visit the family from 10 am until the time of service Friday at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Appleton with Military Honors performed by the VFW Post #2778 of Appleton. Memorials may be directed to the Old Glory Honor Flight Inc.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Rennes Health Care Center and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care of Dad the past two weeks.
Many thanks to the many friends who visited with Will on a daily basis.
