      Wayne Piette, 86, passed Sunday, October 29, 2017 at his home in Midland, Texas surrounded by family. He was born September 2, 1931 in Appleton, Wisconsin to Walter and Alma (Rehfeldt) Piette.

      Wayne served two years in the United States Army. He then attended the University of Wisconsin and received a Bachelor of Science in Geology. While in college, he met and married his bride, Ginny Knoche, almost 63 years ago. They moved to Houston in 1957 and then on to Midland in 1966. Wayne worked for various major oil companies in Houston and Midland before becoming a successful independent petroleum geologist.

      Wayne loved his family, faith, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He was an avid reader and history buff. Wayne enjoyed maps, geography and planning adventurous trips for his wife and family throughout the years. He was active in St. Ann's Catholic Church and school and served 2 terms on the school board. He was a member of the AAPG and the West Texas Geological Society. He was also a member of the COM Aquatics club where he swam laps daily for the past 20 years. Wayne enjoyed many enriching friendships throughout his life.

      Wayne is survived by his wife, Ginny; daughters, Renee Richards (Guy), Suzanne Piette, Pam Logan (Brad), Nancy Piette, and Jennifer Boggs (Greg); grandchildren, Luke, Ashley and Shanon Richards, Jeremie Piette, Mallory Buck, Paul and David Logan, Dylan, Trey and Hannah Baker, and Danielle, Grace and Ben Boggs. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Krause; sisters-in-law, Mary and Rose Piette; brother-in-law, Tom Knoche (Marilyn); and many nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Russ, Carl, and Norb Piette, and his granddaughter, Kelsey Logan.

      Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home where the family will greet friends. The Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 2:00 PM at St. Ann's Catholic Church with a reception following. A private burial will take place before the funeral Mass.

      The family thanks Hospice of Midland for their support and care.
