      Hoewisch, Walter A.


      Walter A. Hoewisch, 86, Greenville, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009. Walter was born on Sept. 22, 1923, in Township of Caledonia (Waupaca County), son of the late Carl and Freida (Bruss) Hoewisch. He was confirmed on April 10, 1938. On June 13, 1953, he was united in marriage to Lois Tews at Zion Lutheran Church, Caledonia.

      Walter was a charter member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Greenville, of which he submitted the name. He diligently served his Lord in many ways including Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, trustee, elder, custodian and 39 year choir member and was also a member of Appleton Mac Dowell male chorus. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1948-1951 during the Korean War. Walter was a member of the American Legion Hammond Schmit Post. #55. He was a faithful volunteer at King Veteran Home.

      He worked at Kimberly-Clark for 33 years, retiring in 1984 and then as a sewer inspector for the Town of Greenville. Wally loved spending time with his family, woodworking, fishing, gardening and cars. Walter and Lois loved to travel and they traveled to Germany three times. He loved to spend time on his tractor.

      Wally is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois, his "special angel"; two daughters, Kathy (Dean) Culbertson and Vonnie (Dan) Hoewisch-Butt; a son, Dean (Donna) Hoewisch; his 12 beloved grandchildren, Jamie (Joe) Hewitt, Brittany and Krista Culbertson, Jeremy (Heather), Troy, Tori, and Jacob Maass, Kaylin (Luke) Drury, Crystal, Celeste, Karen and Garrett Hoewisch; an adopted granddaughter, Kim (Kevin) Ott; three great-granddaughters; a brother, Carl Hoewisch; brother and sisters-in-law, Rollin (Diana) Tews and Shirley Tews; a special close friend, Walt Edwards; numerous nieces, nephews and other special friends.

      Besides his parents, Wally is preceded in death by five brothers, Bill, Martin, Hans, Werner and Gerhardt Hoewisch; four sisters, Margaret Handschke, Gertrude Klemp, Martha Kester and Elfrieda Bauer; and also his brother-in-law and best friend, Lyle Tews.

      Funeral Services for Walter will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Greenville, with the Rev. Nate Reichle and the Rev. Paul Shackle officiating. Full military honors will be held at the church following the service. Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.

      A memorial fund is being established for Shepherd of the Hills endowment fund/scholarship for church workers.
