- Thomas "Tom" Butcher, 53, Sarasota, Florida, died at his home Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Tom was born to James and Dorothy (Ploetz) Butcher May 19, 1957, in Denver, Colorado, and moved to Combined Locks, Wisconsin, with his family when he was five years old. He graduated from Kimberly High School in 1975. He later attended DeVry University in Chicago, Illinois. In the early 1980s, Tom moved to Sarasota, Florida, where he resided until his death.
Tom is survived by his father, James Butcher, King; two brothers: Larry Butcher, Florida; John (Yulia Labik) Butcher, Appleton; and four sisters: Diane (John) Tessen, Appleton; Laura (Larry) Van Groll, Kaukauna; Mary (Tom) Weaver, Waconia, MN; and Sue (Ron) Johnson, Appleton. Tom is further survived by his nieces and nephews and their families: Shaunna Tessen, Tara (Tessen) and Pete Martzahl, Margo Labik, Mike Van Groll, Dave and Jesse Van Groll and their children, Alexis, Domnyk and Braydyn, Ben Weaver and Corporal Joe Weaver, USMC. Tom is also survived by many friends, both in Wisconsin and his beloved friends in Florida.
Tom was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and will be remembered always for his great unique sense of humor and his love of celebrating life with his many friends and family.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Butcher; his grandparents: James and Catherine Butcher and Alvin and Frances Ploetz.
A memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 6 p.m. at Freedom Moravian Church, W3457 Center Valley Road, Appleton, WI 54913 with Pastor Jason Andersen officiating. Tom's family will greet friends from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. There will be a gathering after the service at Hitters Sports Bar, 141 Clark St., Kimberly.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Tom's name.
