- Thelma E. Gebhart, 89, of Chilton, formerly of Charlesburg, passed away Friday, June 30, 1989, at Valley Presbyterian Hospital, Van Nuys, CA.
She was born on February 22, 1900 in the town of Brothertown, daughter of the late Alfred and Magdeline (Mertens) Strebe. On April 23, 1918, she married John M. Puetz. He died later that year while serving with the U.S. Army in France. On Nov. 8, 1920, she married Charles J. Gebhart in Johnsburg. They farmed in the town of Charlestown for over 40 years. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1962. She was member of St. Augustines Catholic Church, Chilton.
Survivors include two daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Kathleen) Chapman, Fond du Lac; and Mrs. Samuel (Mildred) Curtis, Sherman Oaks, CA; two sons, Wallace Gebhart, Charlesburg; and Robert (Eleanor) Gebhart, Kiel; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Gregor (Marie) Freund, Johnsburg. A son David preceded her in death in May of 1938; and a daughter, Virginia Jodar, in 1988; and a sister and four brothers.
A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Charles Catholic Church, Charlesburg. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
