- Feb 15, 1917 - Carroll Times - Although it was known that Mrs. J.H. Vanderheiden had been in poor health for some time past and had spent a great part of the time in the hospital since early fall, it was thought that she would recover and the news of her death, Sunday morning, was lamented by her relatives and friends. The cause of death was pneumonia which added to her other troubles, bright's disease, dropsy and heart trouble, was too much for her strength.
She was born in Clinton county in 1876 and was forty-two years old at the time of her death. In 1895 her marriage to Mr. Vanderheiden took place at Breda and a short time afterwards they moved to Armour, South Dakota, where they lived until three years ago when they bought the A.J. Hodges place just north of town.
Nine children were born to this union, all of whom are living at home. They are Henry, John, Rose, Joe, Bernard, George, Charles, Raymond, and James. Besides the husband and children she leaves nine brothers.
The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the father and children. The funeral services were conducted from SS. Peter and Paul's church Wednesday morning.
