- Rupert David Steinfeldt, 89, Howard, was reunited with the love of his life on May 15, 2015. He was born on Feb. 12, 1926 in De Pere to the late Arnold and Odelia (Bellin) Steinfeldt. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and attended De Pere High School before joining the United States Navy on Dec. 27, 1943. He was a Seaman First Class spending time at the U.S. Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois and on the USS ARD 2 and USS PC 586. His service was spent in the South Pacific; from New Caledonia, to Okinawa, then to Hawaii. He was honorably discharged April 1, 1946. When he returned to Wisconsin, he started working at Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding with his father. On July 2, 1949 he married Delilah Toebe at St. Joseph's Church, Oneida. In 1951, he started working at Northern Paper Mill in Green Bay. He retired in 1988 after 37 years; while the mill changed names to Marathon Corp., American Can and James River.He was proud of the home he built in Howard in 1961 and the cottage at Crooked Lake in 1968. Many good times were spent up north boating and snowmobiling. He and Delilah enjoyed traveling with family and friends. He also liked deer hunting, playing bingo and the lottery, bowling, blackberry picking, looking for asparagus, crabbing and making booyah. He was very creative working with stones, making jewelry and belt buckles. Woodworking was also special. He made many cupboards and table and chair sets for granddaughters and barns for grandsons.He received his high school diploma from West De Pere High School on January 12, 2001, when it was determined that veterans who served their country deserved their diploma. He lost the love of his life on August 13, 2007. Visitation continues on Tuesday, May 19, from 9:30 until 11:00 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2561 Glendale Ave., Howard. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. John Bergstadt officiating.
