- Rose "Bernie" VanderZanden, 94, of Hillsboro died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at the Maryville Nursing Home, of Alzheimers Disease.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, followed by funeral services 10 a.m., both at St. Matthew
Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Scott Vandehey officiating.
Burial Rites and Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery in Roy.
Mrs. VanderZanden was born Feb. 15, 1910, in Crabtree to Philip and Barbara Francks Kalsch. She was raised and educated in Forest
Grove, graduating from high school in 1927. She attended Oregon Normal School in Monmouth. Mrs. VanderZanden taught at Centerville Schoolhouse, north of Cornelius.
Mrs. VanderZanden married Albert VanderZanden on June 30, 1934 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Forest Grove. They celebrated 53
years of marriage before his death in 1987.
Mrs. VanderZanden was a homemaker, raising her family and helping with the dairy and grain farm. She was a member of the Alter Society and attended St. Matthew Catholic Church most of her
life.
She enjoyed collecting antiques, playing cards, fishing and working in her flower garden.
Mrs. VanderZanden was preceded in death by her daughter Sharon VanderZanden in 1957.
Survivors include her six children and their spouses, Norma and Wally Thompson of Hillsboro, Wayne and Bev VanderZanden of Hillsboro, Gerald and Donna VanderZanden of Hayden Lake,
Idaho, Jean and Obie Hoodman of Forest Grove, Robert
and Crystal VanderZanden of Hillsboro and Lorna VanderZanden of Arlington, Va., 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and many
nieces and nephews.
Remembrances may be contributions to the St. Matthew Catholic School, Hillsboro, or Alzheimers Research, OHSU.
Services are entrusted to Donelson, Sewell and Mathews Mortuary
