    • Rosann (Vandehey) Appleton, age 96, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at St. Paul Home with her family by her side. She was born September 3, 1914, in Loyal, WI, daughter of the late Alfred and Theresa (Green) Vandehey. At age 6, she and her family moved to Kaukauna where she lived almost her entire life. She attended Holy Cross Catholic School and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1935. After graduation, Rosann made deliveries of bakery that she and her mother made. It became obvious she inherited her Mom's bakery skills. She later took a job at Van Zeeland's Nursery and also worked at the home of the Kimberly-Clark President. On November 22, 1941, Rosann married the love of her life, Joe Appleton, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She first met Joe at the Nightingale Dance Hall. Rosann settled in as a homemaker and wife until the start of WWII. She then worked at the Hercules Powder Co. during the war. In 1949, Rosann and Joe settled back in Kaukauna and bought a home where she resided until her death. They adopted two beautiful sons, David and Rick. Rosann loved her new role as wife and mother and her boys were often treated to her baking specialty, apple pie. She did volunteer work and for many years cleaned the altar at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Rosann was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a devout Catholic. She practiced and lived her faith daily.

Rosann is survived by her husband Joe, her sons: David (Jan) of Texas and Rick (Peggy) of Appleton, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a brother, Eugene Vandehey, and a sister-in-law, Marian Vandehey. She is further survived by Joe's family and numerous and loving nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet, brothers: Milton (Florence) and Glen, a sister-in-law, Donna, and members of Joe's family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday May 6, 2011, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy and Fr. Jack Mullarkey concelebrating. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 on Thursday at Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, with prayers concluding the evening. Friend may call again on Friday directly at Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.

The family would like to thank St. Paul Home in Kaukauna for the love, care and compassion they have shown Rosann for the last few months.
