- Roger J. Freimuth, age 77, Manawa died on Sunday, January 5, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, at Appleton Medical Center from a lengthy 17 year battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was born on November 21, 1936, Town of Bovina, son of the late Walter and Grace (Cooney) Freimuth. Roger graduated from Shiocton High School in 1955. He served his country in the US Army in Korea. On September 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Verlee Young at St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton. He worked as an inspector at Appleton Wire Works for 41 years. Roger enjoyed country music, western movies, cards, bowling and dice games. He loved to dance and was always the life of the party. Roger and his wife attended the Hodag Country Music Festival in Rhinelander for 26 years in a row.
Roger is survived by his wife Verlee; 2 daughters, Vickie (Bob) Teal, Green Bay; Rhonda (Jay) Nelson, Shiocton; 2 sons, Rodney (Teresa) Freimuth, Freedom; Russell (Cathy) Freimuth, Appleton; son in-law, Jesse Torres, CA; 4 brothers: Eugene (Sherry) Freimuth, Appleton; James (Marcella) Freimuth, Greenville; Ronald (Judi) Freimuth, Appleton; Donald (Lynn) Freimuth, Appleton; 6 sisters: Ruth Gosse, Appleton; Lois (Don) Peeters, Shiocton; Loraine (Marvin) Schellpfeffer, Shawano; Lucille (Robert) Letter, Isaar; Carol (Jim) Diemel, Shiocton and Barbara (Rodney) Hillsberg, Bonduel. Grandchildren: Travis (Courtney) Nelson; Tonya (John) Carpenter, Tina (Tom) Immel, Wesley (Jenna) Freimuth, Miranda Freimuth, Joshua Freimuth (Gina), Jennifer Freimuth (Ryan), Justin Freimuth (Brittney), Karl Kuhr (Heidi), Andrew Teal (Kate), Jay (Kari) Teal. Great-grandchildren: Rylee, Mason, Alexis, Courtney, Kayley, Kaitlyn, Lyla, Trenton, Marley, and Kenna. Brother in-laws and sister in-laws: Wayne Price, Green Bay; Rita Young, Shiocton; Bernice Young, Kaukauna; Carol Johnson, Neenah; Margie Ort (Randy Coullard), Iola; Sherry Freimuth, Appleton; Jerry (Dede) Young TX; Kathleen (Elmer) Kaiser, Horicon; Janet (Evan) Ritchie, Manawa; Elaine (Rob) Robertson, Hortonville; Dan (Terri) Young, Shiocton and Darwin Young, Weyauwega. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father in-law and mother in-law, Abraham and Esther (Herminath) Young; 2 daughters, Carla Freimuth and Patricia Torres; 3 sisters, June Freimuth, Ethel Price and Margaret (Don) Lund; 1 brother, David Freimuth; 4 brother in-laws: Delton Young, Ronald Young, Harry Johnson and David Ort.
Funeral Mass for Roger will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church (808 S Pearl St.), New London with Fr. Robert Groher officiating. Visitation will be held at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and also at the church on Thursday from 9:00 am. until the time of service. Military rites will follow the Mass. Burial will be in the Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
