    • Roderick J. "Whitey" Herman, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 30, 2010. He was born on January 27, 1948, in New London, WI; son of the late Kermit and Alice (Suprise) Herman. On May 17, 1974, he was united in marriage to Loretta Fuss; Loretta preceded him in death August 13, 2007. Rod honorably served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed spending time with his family and also his friends at the 10th Frame and the Moose Lodge. Rod was a very liked friend who was very generous with his time and always willing to help anyone who needed it. He also loved to fish and ride his Harley.

Rod worked as a welder/fabricator for Allis Chalmers, AC Compressor and then for G.E. where he retired this year.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Robin (Rich) Miller, Brillion, Angela (Mike) Forry, Appleton, Christopher (Theresa) Herman, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Mark Herman, Appleton; grandchildren, Dakota Lieburn, Cole and Samantha Miller, Kaitlin and Kiana Herman and Maxson Forry; brothers, Roman (Lois) Herman, Ryle (Dorothy) Herman and Ronald Herman and a sister, Mary Herman and also by many nieces, nephews, good friends and his best friend and companion, his dog, "Snowball."

A Mass of Christian Burial for Rod will be held on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary officiating. Family and friends may visit at Valley Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m. and again on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass. Burial will take place in St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Town of Bovina, Shiocton, WI. A memorial fund is being established in his name.

Rod's family would like to say a special thanks to the FVTC instructors and paramedic students who helped initially and also to the Grand Chute paramedics for your wonderful care and attempts to help save a wonderful man.

Pa, there are no words to describe how much you will be missed. We will forever cherish the memories and all the laughs we've had throughout the years. You've been taken from us far too soon. We will see you again. Until then, be with Mom and rest in peace. All my love, Annie
