    • Richard Owen Sanders, 76, of Riverside, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at his home.Richard was born on November 11, 1938 in Payette, Idaho, to Arnold C. and Ellen C. Cleveland Sanders. He attended school in Payette, graduated from Payette High School. Richard graduated in the top 10 in his class and never missed a day of school in 12 years. Following graduation he attended the University of Idaho and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1965. On May 29, 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, Sonja L. Anderson in Hailey, Idaho.Richard worked for Basic American Foods for 12 years and at the INEL for 17 years, retiring in 1994.He enjoyed garage sales, auctions, camping, fishing, fixing things in his shop and riding his Honda Goldwing. After retiring he and Sonja learned to play the fiddle and guitar. They joined the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers and made many new friends. They spent the last 19 years wintering in Quartzsite, Arizona, playing music and enjoying the weather. He loved going to support his granddaughter in volleyball, basketball and softball games.Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sonja, of Riverside; daughter, LaRae (Quin) Mace, of Rigby; son, Bryan (Janaye) Sanders, of Firth; sister, Nina (George) Strange, of Fruitland, Idaho; brother, brothers-in-law, Charles Sloat and Russell Anderson; 3 grandchildren, Alex, Ashly and Zach and three great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan Sloat.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be at 4 p.m. in the Firth Riverview Cemetery.
