    • Bricco, Ramona Violet

Ramona V. Bricco, age 95, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 17, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Ramona was born in Chicago, the oldest of seven children, on January 27, 1919, the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Walsh) Hubert. Ramona spent the first six years in a logging camp in northern Wisconsin where her father was a logger and her mother the camp cook. When she was six, her family returned to their family home in Wittenberg, Wisconsin.

Ramona graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1938. On October 11, 1940, Ramona married the love of her life, Gordon Bricco on October 11, 1940. They had a life rich in happiness and adventure until Gordon's death on April 26, 1974. Ramona followed in her mother's footsteps as an excellent cook and worked in area restaurants until she and Gordon owned their first restaurant in Wittenberg. The family moved to Weyauwega in 1960 where they owned and operated the Pine Cafe. In 1976 Ramona sold her business and moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where she eventually owned three restaurants and was famous for her delicious pies. Ramona remained in the restaurant business until she was 80. After a short period of retirement, she was bored just staying at home so she took a job as a greeter at Walmart where she worked until she was 90.

Ramona loved to travel, and eventually visited Kenya and Peru to visit family and friends, and also traveled extensively in the US, and also vacationed in Mexico, Hawaii, and Jamaica. She was an avid reader, and an animal lover, particularly of dogs, of which she had many of throughout her life. She loved feeding and watching wild birds and was particularly fond of cardinals. She loved to play cards and board games with family and friends, and for many years was a member of a bowling team, and as well played softball on the Wittenberg Women's Softball team. She was a longtime collector of clocks and the house was always filled with the sound of cuckoo's, ticking, chiming and gonging of the many clocks which always seemed to run on different times. To say she will be missed by her family and friends from around the world does not describe the loss felt by her family, and the children of her brothers and sisters who all think of her as their "second" mother.

She is survived by her three daughters, Rebecca Ziepke, Luana Bricco (Alfredo Ruiz), Linda Lillge, and Jordan (Cara) Bricco; grandchildren, Mark, Jon, Tammy, Kristi, Mylinda, David, Max and Chanel; eighteen grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Gordon, Ramona was preceded in death by her siblings, Romaine, Delmar, Tommy, Gilda, Beverly and Wayne.

Family and Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. - 12 Noon, on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond Street, Appleton. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Aaron Hutton officiating. Burial will take place at 2 p.m., in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Wittenberg.
