    • Oriet M. Gospodarek, age 94, passed away peacefully at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, with her family at her side on Monday afternoon, December 12, 2011.

      She was born on October 7, 1917 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Adolph and Margaret (Bies) Hrudka and step daughter of Hattie (Belinske) Hrudka. Oriet graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1936. She married Michael R. Gospodarek on June 20, 1939 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Oriet completed a bookkeeping course at the Manitowoc Business College and worked at the Mirro Company in the office for 3 years. Oriet and Michael owned and operated Mike's Grocery on 17th and Hamilton Street for 31 years from 1946 - 1977. Oriet enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at their Pigeon Lake cottage during the summer months. She enjoyed baking, knitting and card playing. Oriet belonged to the former Rosary and Altar Society of St. Mary's Parish in Manitowoc for 60 years. She was also a member of the Election Board for 20 years from 1974 - 1994.

      Survivors include three sons and three daughters-in-law: Robert & Jean Gospodarek, Donald & Glenda Gospodarek, Jerry Gospodarek and special friend: Mary Shimek, all of Manitowoc; and Diane Gospodarek, Two Rivers; eight grandchildren: Kris (Christian) Akgulian, Manitowoc, Steven (Kathy) Gospodarek, Eagle, WI, Gail (Chan) Barden, Manitowoc, Kelly (Dave) Weed, Sheboygan, Chad Gospodarek, Christopher Gospodarek, Casie Gospodarek and Tayler Gospodarek, all of Manitowoc; six great grandchildren: Gabriel and Grace Barden, Lydia and Drew Weed, Kalina and Michaelyn Akgulian; and two sisters-in-law: Florence Gospodarek and Grace Boyd, both of Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Michael in 2000; a son: James in 1991; brothers-in-law: Alois, Tony, Adolph and Leonard Gospodarek along with sisters-in-law: Pauline Witczak and Alice Tomchek.

      Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Tom Wojciechowski O.F.M. and Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and Oriet will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

      The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 until 10:45 a.m.

      In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name would be appreciated to St. Francis of Assisi Parish or Roncalli High School.

      The Pfeffer Funeral Home & All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

      Oriet's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Shady Lane, especially the third floor RNs and CNAs for the compassionate and loving care they have given to our Mother Gus for more than four years.
