- Norman Gilbert Roskom, 81, Abrams, died from a rare form of cancer at a local hospital on Friday, March 25, 2011. He was born on May 2, 1929 in Mill Center to the late Gilbert and Dorothy (Kimps) Roskom. He attended school in the Township of Howard. On Nov. 11, 1950, he married Joan Falevsky. Norman served in the U.S. Army from 1952 -1954 in Korea during the Korean Conflict. When he returned, he worked for Northwest Engineering and later Heyrman Construction as a master carpenter until retiring. He also had a sawmill for 60 years. Norman was with the Abrams volunteer fire department from its early beginnings, serving for more than 35 years. He was a member of the Oconto Co. Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post 523.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joan; two sons and their families: Peter (Debi), their children, Jason Roskom, Sarah (Adam) Paulson; and great granddaughter, Madison; Jeffrey (Jody), their daughter, Kylee; three brothers and two sisters: Clayton (Deloris) Roskom, Doris Geer, Kenneth Roskom, Judy (Syl) Smurawa, and Leonard Roskom; Joan's three sisters: Janis (Bob) Steeno, Judy (Carl) Bernetzke, and Donna (Hank) Piotrzkowski; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley (Edward) Socha, and his in-laws: Roland and Eva Falevsky and Donald and Ruth Falevsky.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Green Bay Community Church, 600 Cardinal Lane, Howard, from 4 pm until the funeral service at 6 pm with Bill Anderson officiating. Military honors will follow. Interment will be in Baileys Harbor Town Cemetery.
