- Verhagen, Nicholas S 1988 Appleton Post Crescent dated 11/5/1988; Nicholas S. Verhagen, 353 First St. Neenah; Age 79, died Friday, November 4th, 1988, following a six month illness with cancer. He was born December 25th, 1908, in Freedom, to Louis and Mary Romanesko Verhagen. He married Margaret Burke on August 9th, 1932, in Kaukauna. Mr. Verhagen was employed by the Kimberly-Clark Corp. for 38 years before retiring in 1971; and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Manasha; and he was a lay distributor of the church. He was a member of the Menasha Senior Center and a director of the Sunbeam Singers, the Old Goats Club, the S P E B S Q S A Appleton Barber Shop chapter, and organized St. Margaret Mary Cub Scout troop. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and John Towns, Neenah; two sons and a daughter in law: David and Rose Mary Verhagen, of Neenah; Dennis and Linda Verhagen, Appleton; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; five sisters; and a daughter in law, Margaret (Hermes) Verhagen. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kessler funeral home, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Menasha, with Father Roy Geenen officiating. Internment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah.
