- Joyce Melby (nee Van Schindel) died in her sleep on December 30, 2012. Her 86 years were full of love, compassion and devotion to her family/friends.
She was born in Little Chute, WI, on September 12, 1926. On August 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Thomas Eugene Melby in Appleton. Joyce's passions were her grandchildren and the "Club" of women that were her friends since high school. She also enjoyed knitting and reading. Her faith was deeply important to her. She was a daily communicant for many of her later years.
She is survived by her sister, Charlotte (Bill) Marquardt; three sons, Gary Melby, Noblesville, IN; Michael Melby, Bloomington, IN; and Tom Melby, Pittsburgh, PA; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, daughter, Karen and sister, Joan.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at St. Pius Catholic Church, Appleton. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
