- Joyce G. Uhlenbrauck, 89, of Appleton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Brewster Village. Joyce was born in Little Chute on October 8, 1924, daughter of the late George A. and Johanna (Jansen) Klika. On August 12, 1943, Joyce married the joy of her life, Norbert G. Unlenbrauck. They began their life together farming in Black Creek. After two years, they moved to Appleton. At this time, Joyce developed an expertise at being a homemaker. She was well known within her family and outreaches as an expert at baking and cooking, and loved having the family over for holiday meals. Being an avid card player, the family gatherings usually concluded with a fun game of Sheepshead. She enjoyed travel with family and friends both domestic and abroad. She, also, did not miss an opportunity to play bingo. Joyce and Norb spent many Saturday evenings dancing at the Cinderella Ballroom with their many friends. As her family grew, she included employment at both the former Grants Department Store and Zwicker Knitting Mill. Joyce and Norb also owned and operated the Westmoor Motel in Manitowoc as well as several apartment buildings in Appleton.
Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew her but especially by her children and grandchildren: Judy (Ron) Colling, Appleton; their children: Joe (Stephanie) Colling, Tom (Jenny) Colling, and Catherine (Brian) Wallace; Norbert E. (Jane) Uhlenbrauck, Neenah; their children: Amy (Kurt) Wilkinson, Nicole (Doug) Salm, and Kristin (Dan) Trochil; Carla (Gary) Krueger, Appleton; their children: Traci (Tim) Granberg, Dave (Edie) Krueger, Ben (Erin) Krueger, Sam (Sarah) Krueger, and Jared (Rachel) Krueger; Randy (Micki) Uhlenbrauck, Appleton; their children: Bryn (Scott) Ceman, Ryan Uhlenbrauck, and Tyler Uhlenbrauck; her 29 great-grandchildren and another expected this summer; and one great-great-grandchild, who all extend her legacy. Joyce is further survived by her sisters: Isabel (Leo) Huelsbeck, Georgie (Mike) Gilbertson; brother: Harlan (Pat) Klika; sisters-in-law: Mae Uhlenbrauck, Everen Klika, Lois Klika, and Corrine VandenBloomer; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband; parents; father-in-law: Albert Uhlenbrauck; mother-in-law: Anna (Stapel) Uhlenbrauck; sister: Dolores VandenBloomer; brothers: Cyril Klika, Ron Klika; brothers-in-law: Bob Schuh, Earl, Gilbert, and Vernon Uhlenbrauck, Walter and Emro Plamann; and sisters-in-law: Mabel Plamann, Carrie Plamann, and Laurinda Uhlenbrauck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joyce at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Appleton, with Fr. Jim O'Leary, OFM, Cap., officiating. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established for local charities in Joyce's name.
The family would like to give special thanks to Brewster Village, especially, the loving care provided by the staff in Rosewood. Also, we thank the Theda Care Hospice staff for making Joyce's last days comfortable.
