- Joyce Elvera (Scheibe) Butterfield, age 85, passed away on Monday evening, January 29, 2018, after living with Alzheimers for many years, as well as complications from a recent fall. Joyce was born April 3, 1932 in Appleton, daughter of the late Chester and Elvera (Remter) Scheibe. On June 28, 1952, Joyce was united in marriage to Kenneth Butterfield. They shared fifty-one wonderful and happy years together until the love of her life was called home to heaven in 2004.
Joyce was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Appleton, where she was a member of the Ladies Aide, helped with Girl Pioneers, coached the cheerleaders, and volunteered wherever there was a need.
Following her graduation from Appleton High School in 1950, she started her clerical working career. She paused her career briefly to enjoy raising her two daughters until school age, then returned to the paralegal and tax preparation fields until her retirement.
Joyce was a Packer fan, and had attended many games, including the infamous Ice Bowl. She was also an excellent seamstress, party planner, baker, cook, and canning expert! Her greatest joys in life came from spending time with friends and family, especially those with her granddaughter - Breanna.
Joyce will be greatly missed by her two daughters: Tami Schurer and Lisa (George) DeBruin; her granddaughter: Breanna DeBruin and her fiancé Jake
Gorges; her brothers and sisters: Joan (Wayne) Strelow, Dan (Darlene) Scheibe, Karen Scheibe, and Tim (Judy) Scheibe. Her sisters-in-law are Janice Scheibe, Lorraine Scheibe, and Eunice Scheibe. Joyce is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken, and brothers Floyd, Eugene, and Harold Scheibe; and a son-in-law: Ron Schurer.
The Christian Funeral Service for Joyce will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton, with Rev. Kenneth Frey officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at American Grand Assisted Living, especially Tiffany Tippy and Dena Bena, Lisa, Amy, and Wendy, who provided heart-felt and compassionate care that will never be forgotten. Thanks also to the entire staff at ThedaCare Appleton and ThedaCare Hospice.
Mom, a mother - child bond is like no other. Whatever life challenges are faced, the love and devotion of a mother never wavers. We shed tears because we will miss you, yet find comfort knowing that you are reunited with Dad, family, and friends. Our love for you will live on in our hearts forever.
