- My Great, Great, Great, Great, Grandpa John Zoern was born in a town near Frankfort, Germany. He married Mary Colebeck. They had 8 sons one of which was my Great, Great, Great, Grandpa. His name was Joseph Wolfgang Zoern. He was born on Halloween in 1883. Several years later they came to America. Where they were settled there was a plague going around known as the black plague. His seven brothers and mom had gotten it and all died in one night. In the middle of the night they had to bury them because when they were dead it was still contagious. They buried them somewhere in Brillion, Wisconsin. Then his father got remarried and they didn't get along so he ran away to Manitowoc, Wisconsin to live with his aunt and uncle. Growing up as a barber he owned his own barber shop. Then started butchering and started his own butchering company. Then he got married to Catherine Fleishman and had 7 children (one died in infancy). Later he made a boarding house and bar/restaurant called The Farmer's Home. The bar and restaurant is still running in Antigo, Wisconsin. Then as he got older he got into a trucking business driving livestock to Milwaukee and Chicago. He also became a cattle buyer. As his children got older his family became poorer. He eventually had to make his large home into 5 apartments. At the age of 64 he died on March 2, 1947 leading an inspirational life. He was the father of 7 who were Irvin, Joseph, Walter, Evelyn, Lorraine, Harvey, and Joseph who died in infancy. He was also the grandfather of 29, the great great grandfather of 70 and great, great, great, grandfather of 61. He was buried with his wife, sons, and daughter Evelyn.
