Notes - John H. Green, senior member of the firm, Green & Sons, one of the largest contracting corporation. He died Sunday at 6:30 am. For years, Mr Green was one of the most prominent men in the woods of northern Wisconsin, running three camps there. Later, he took up the paving, sewer and water works contracting business. It was his firm which laid out Gary, Indiana, the steel trust town, lowered the sand dunes and constructed the sewer and water works system. He leaves a wife, three sons, Capt Charles A. of Appleton, Robert of Streator, Ill, James of Chicago and two daughters, Mrs Earl Douglas and Mrs Thomas Long of Appleton.

APPLETON PIONEER DIES.
John H. Green, the well known Appleton pioneer, died Sunday morning at his home in that city aged 74 years. Death was due to a general breaking down of the system. Mr. Green came to Outagamie county as a fatherless boy of 18 years, the oldest of the family and here commenced his struggle to aid his mother in supporting the household. He spent his early winters in the woods and there obtained the knowledge which started his successful career as a woodsmen and contractor. The firm of J. H. Green and Sons today is known throughout many states for since 1895 they have been extensively engaged in paving, water works, sewer and bridge building contracts, many of them on a very large scale. The funeral was held Wednesday at St. Mary's church, Appleton, and was attended by many friends of the family from Kaukauna.
