    • John A. Bryson, 50, Green Bay, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017 following a courageous 3-year struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was born on February 27, 1967, in Philadelphia, PA to Robert and Shamsi (Mecklai) Bryson.

John was a graduate of John Hersey High School, Class of 1985, where he was active on the debate team, winning multiple awards. After a registration flub, he pursued a broadcast radio degree when he originally had intended to register for journalism at Marquette University. It was there he met his wife, Tina Vanden Elzen, and they were married on Sept. 5, 1992.

John worked at numerous radio stations, later in banking, and 10 years ago became a stay-at-home dad to his daughters. He was a proud father and based on his parenting experience wrote a blog "Smack of Ham" (Twitter@smackofhamblog) and a book on the humorous experience of being a stay-at-home dad.

John was a fantastic photographer and used his kids as his medium. He loved music, especially the Blues and Huey Lewis and the News; the White Sox; the Blues Brothers; playing Monopoly; craft beers and cooking chili; but most of all, his children.

John is survived by his wife, Tina; and children, Isabella "Bella" and Mariana "MJ"; his mother, Shamsi Bryson; sister, Jane Bryson (fiancé, Matt Jurewicz); mother-in-law, Jean Vanden Elzen; in-laws, Cindi (Mike) Gerrits, Lance (Ann) Vanden Elzen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bryson; father-in-law, Jim Vanden Elzen; and sister-in-law, Pamela Vanden Elzen.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Sharing of Memories will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's name to benefit the ALS Association.

A special thank you is extended to his numerous caregivers, especially Carrie, Edith, Betty and Lisa; and to family and friends for your love, support, prayers, meals, and so much more. There are so many people who have supported us through this terrible journey and we are thankful beyond words.
