Mrs. Carl Sumnicht Died Wednesday, May 26th.
Johanna Justine Sumnicht, nee Zimmel, died at the home of her son Albert in the town of Hartland Wednesday morning, May 26th. Aged eighty-four years, nine months and thirteen days.
The deceased was born in Pomerania, Germany, August 13th, 1841. There she attended the Christian School and was confirmed in the year 1855. In the same year together with her parents she immigrated to America, first making their home in Theresa, Dodge County, Wis. In the year of 1861 she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Carl Sumnicht, with whom she lived for forty-eight years when he died, which was in the year of 1909. Immediately after their marriage they came to the town of Hartland and took up a homestead, which today is one of the best farms in this locality. Their marriage was blessed with thirteen children of whom six preceded Mrs. Sumnicht in death. Three years ago she fell, since which time she has not been able to leave the home. For the last three months she suffered from old age and after having been unconscious for several days died. Mrs. Sumnicht was a true Christian being a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church since its first organization in Bonduel. The beautifying influences of a pure religion were spread over a life and character as spotless and charming as was ever possessed by any of the noble women who have lived and died during the ages that are gone.
Her funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bonduel, Rev. Walter Plischke officiating, who paid a beautiful tribute in her memory.
She was mourned by five sons and two daughters, four daughters-in-law and one son-in-law. They are Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ebert, Wm. Sumnicht, Emma Sumnicht, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sumnicht, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sumnicht, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sumnicht, eighteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The pall-bearers were Ernest Ebert, Arthur Sumnicht, Ernest Brodhagen, John Zuehlsdorf, Frank Ebert and Edward Sumnicht and the flower girls were Emma Ebert, Clara Zuehlsdorf, Selma Sumnicht, Ethel Ganschow, Viola Wussow and Mabel Sumnicht.
The following out-of-town relatives were present at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Zimmel, Herman Zimmel, Wm. Krueger, Arnold Zimmel and Mrs. Gustav Kuehl all of Theresa, Dodge Co., Wis., Mrs. Wm. Herms of Cecil, Mr. and Mrs. Ed.
