      La Plante, Joan M.
Joan M. La Plante went peacefully to be with our Lord during the evening of Saturday, August 2, 2008, after her courageous battle with cancer. Born October 18, 1935, to Nicholas and Anna (Welhouse) Thyssen, she graduated from St. Therese Grade School and Appleton High School. Joan married Eugene La Plante at St. Therese Parish on September 29, 1956. They raised four children at home in the Town of Grand Chute, and enjoyed 51 years together. Their children blessed them with 11 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
Joan was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Vacations were spent up north fishing and visiting with relations and friends. After their children grew up and moved on, Joan and Eugene went on many adventurous bus excursions. They especially found pleasure in their passion of polka dancing with friends for many years. Her talents of sewing, crocheting, knitting and quilting have been enjoyed by the many relatives and friends that shared her life. Her favorite season was Christmas time, as she worked diligently each year to make gifts with love. The home reflected her compassionate heart. Watching the birds outside was also soothing for her. Her green thumb provided many marvelous flowers and her garden provided vegetation for her husband and family throughout the years. Her cooking and baking expertise were appreciated by many, and shared annually at St. Pius X parish picnics along with many of her craft creations. She also faithfully served at St. Pius X for many years at the parish picnics and funeral luncheons. Joan enjoyed life to the best of her abilities and survived with courage until Jesus came to take her home.
She will be missed very much by family and friends, especially her lovingly devoted husband, who tenderly cared for her throughout her health triumphs and struggles along with the support of their daughters and son: Terry and Richard Grosek (Appleton), and their sons: Adam and James; Donna and Edward Hietpas (Little Chute), and their children: Peter (fiancee, Renee), Peggy and her daughter, Bailey and Perry; Mary and William Koleske (Hortonville) and their children, Joe and Susan; Scott and Sarah La Plante (Menasha), and children, Amber (Pat DeWitt), Amanda, Jordan, and Michael. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Burmeister and three brothers, Ken (Shirley), Jack (Audrey), Jerry (Bev) Thyssen.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rosie Thyssen.
Funeral services for Joan will be on Wednesday, Aug 6, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette, St. Appleton. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at Highland memorial Park, Appleton.
