- Jeanne Emily Burke, 83, passed away Feb. 8, 2014, at Rennes Health & Rehab, just hours before her 84th birthday. Her son was at her side.
She was born on Feb. 9, 1930, daughter of the late Elmer and Ida A. Casper (Krause) in Appleton.
After graduating from Appleton High School, Class of 1948, she completed tech school and soon left for Chicago, to begin life on her own. She then moved to Miami, Fla. and later to Alaska, working as a civilian for the Army. It was there she met her future husband, Edward J. Burke. They married in 1955 and settled in Lynn, Mass., where they started their family.
In 1962, they separated and Jeanne moved her children back to Appleton.
Jeanne was fiercely devoted to her children and did everything in her power to ensure they had every opportunity that those more fortunate had. Jeanne would routinely arrange to leave work, attend her childrens' events, return to work and stay late to make up the time.
Jeanne was a very gentle and modest woman who loved to read and had a special love for animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Alvin and Carlton Casper.
She is survived by her children, Lory (Wayne) Walker, Greenville, N.Y.; and Michael (Sherry) Burke, Appleton. She is further survived by grandchildren, Aaron Cope and Callie and Michael Walker.
Special thanks to the caring folks at Matthews Assisted Living (Barney Ct), Rennes Health & Rehab, and Heartland Hospice.
