- James Lavern Dorshorst, 66, of Wisconsin Rapids died Wednesday November 27th due to a traffic accident.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday December 4, 2013 at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. The Rev. Daniel Bohn will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at the funeral home and again from Noon till the time of services Wednesday. Burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Jim was born August 1, 1947 to Joseph and Loretta (Wyderen) Dorshorst. He married Diane (Tauschek) Trickle in 1966, they were blessed with one son Scott. This marriage later ended in divorce. Jim later married Kathy (Cepress) Schwake at a private ceremony on July 31, 1998.
Jim worked at the Clark Chevrolet garage and the Polansky Buick garage in his earlier years before opening his own body shop, J&D Auto Body in 1976. Jim ran J&D Auto Body until Scott took over the business in 1993.
During his retirement Jim was able to live his life. He spent many hours fishing and four wheeling with Kathy and also hunting with Scott and his special buddies at deer camp. Jim enjoyed spending many hours in the U.P. of Michigan on his annual fishing trip with Scott and the guys, and his many snowmobile adventures that he took with Scott and others traveling the U.P. Jim was an avid woodworker and made many items for family and friends. He enjoyed restoring muscle cars, especially the mustangs. Jim spent many hours on his cars and enjoyed his time doing so. He was part of the cruise club that enjoyed their weekly drives. He was also part of the Vesper snowmobile club and looked forward to getting together for their meetings and area rides.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathy, son Scott (Carla) and their daughters Emma and Tanna all of Wisconsin Rapids. Jim is also survived by his step-children Renae (John) and their children Riyah and Payton of Rothschild, WI, Corey (Angie) Schwake and their children Easton and Kynley of Mt. Horeb, WI, Shelly (Tim) Martin and their children Haylee and Madelyn of Trevor, WI. Jim is further survived by his brother Gerald (Maryanne) of Wisconsin Rapids and his sisters Vina Brown of Wisconsin Rapids, Luella Ashbeck of Wisconsin Rapids and Jackie Ashbeck of Wisconsin Rapids. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Loretta, father-in-law Dominic Cepress, mother-in-law Violet Cepress and his brother Marnis "Sonny" Dorshorst.
