- Hugh Wacha, aged 90, of Orleans, MI, passed away Friday, October 25, 2002, in Ionia. He was born on January 29, 1912, in Orleans, MI, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Carten) Wacha. Mr. Wacha lived on the same corner in Orleans his entire life and attended school just across the street. Hugh was a lifelong orchard grower, retiring in 1977. Mr. Wacha wintered in Arizona and enjoyed traveling in his fifth wheel, especially his trips to Mexico. He was a life member of the Horticulture Society and was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Hugh loved his church and took special delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, in 1998; parents and eight siblings. He is survived by his step children, Gerald (Maribeth) Fritz of Orleans, MI, and Jim Fritz of California; four grandchildren, Mary Ann (Robert) Beard of Orleans, John Fritz of Orleans, Theresa (Daryl) Rich of Orleans, and Janine Brown of St. Joseph, MI; seven great-grandchildren, Emily and Tony Beard, Jessica Fritz and Curtis and Matthew Rich; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ionia, with Rev. Fr. Melvin Fox, Pastor as Celebrant. The family will receive friends at the Cook Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Dominican Sisters at Marywood, in memory of Hugh Wacha. Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Funeral Home, Ionia.
