    • Hubert James Bernards passed away in his home in Newberg, Oregon on October 24, 2012, after a long illness.

      He was born on September 28, 1923 in Yamhill, Oregon to Theodore M. and Margaret Hermens Bernards. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. He married Lucille Marie Vanderzanden in Roy, Oregon on September 14, 1949. She survives.

      He is also survived by his sons, James Bernards and Ken Bernards (Teresa); daughters, Barbara Barks (James, Patti McLeod (Michael), Janet Manglitz (Michael) and Catherine Gigon (Roland); grandchildren, Tara Romero, Heather West, Justin McLeod, Brent McLeod, Ross McLeod, Mitchell McLeod, Shawna Reece, Katrina Reece and Nat Bernards; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Romero, Ian Romero, Halo Beckman, Adah West and London West; brothers, Larry Bernards, Norman Bernards and John Bernards and a sister, Jane Van Dyke.

      He served in the U.S. Maritime Service during World War II. He was stationed on a tanker ship in the South Pacific and delivered supplies to his fellow servicemen.
