    • Howard "Howie" M. Nowak, 76, of De Pere passed away Saturday morning, July 25, 2015 at a local hospital, surrounded by his family. The son of the late William and Cecilia (Rukamp) Nowak was born March 4, 1939 in Green Bay.

Howie was a 1957 graduate of East De Pere High School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. He married the former Joy Thomson at St. Boniface Church in De Pere on January 21, 1967.

Howie was employed with Wisconsin Public Service as a meter reader from 1965-1975. He then joined the Thomson Meats family business. He was also a business partner in the Apple Valley Lanes and Willow Creek Lanes.

As an avid bowler and golfer, Howie was very proud of his 300 games and the 823 series he bowled in 2008. He was inducted into the Green Bay Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1985. He also had a hole-in-one at Brown County Golf Course.

Howie also enjoyed the Packers and Brewers, and he was very competitive at the card table. He spent the past ten winters as a Florida snowbird, and he was happy to make booyah for a crowd, as well as grill steaks and prime rib. Howie especially enjoyed supporting the grandkids' activities, and was even slowly becoming a soccer fan, thanks to Erin and Ryan.

Howie will be missed by so many family, friends, neighbors, bowlers, golfers, and a large circle of new Florida friends.

Survivors include his wife, Joy, and three children, Mark (Annjie) Nowak, Cindy (Mike) Wagner, Lori (Mike) McNerney. He was Grandpa Howie to eight grandchildren; Emma, Erika and Luke Nowak, Brookelynn Nowak, Nick and Tyler Wagner, and Erin and Ryan McNerney. Howie is further survived by two brothers, Bill (Nancy) Nowak and Chet Nowak, four special nephews, Jeff, Russ (Denise), Jay (Carrie) and Chris (Mary), mother-in-law Dorothy Thomson, brothers-in-law Tom (Kay) Thomson, Dick (Julie) Thomson, Jeff Thomson and Marty (Diane) Thomson, and sister-in-law Julie (Mike) Willems. He is even further survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and great nephews.

Howie was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cecilia, father-in-law Henry Joe Thomson, and sister-in-law Nancy Thomson.

Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday July 30, 2015. A prayer service will take place at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday after 9:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, 1307 Lourdes Avenue, De Pere, until time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Friday at the church with Father Tim Shillcox, O. Praem, officiating. Entombment at Allouez Mausoleum.
