    • Herbert C. Alvord, 80, of 215 W. Atlantic St., died early this morning after an illness of five months.

      He was born in Freedom [Outagamie Co.], Sept. 15, 1872, and for the last 19 years was employed by the board of education at Morgan School. He was a member of the First Congregational Church.

      Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. John [Florence Alvord] Madsen, Leipsic, Ohio, and Mrs. Harold [Evelyn Mae Alvord] Schulz, Milwaukee; two sons, Robert Alvord, Elmonte, Calif., and Harold Podzilni, Appleton; three brothers, Frank, Burlington, Ellery, Burlington, and Guy E. Alvord, Manitowoc; and five sisters, Mrs. Hattie White, Etna, Calif., Mrs. Pearl Wickesberg, Mrs. Emma Carter, and Mrs. Thomas (Lulu) Henry, all of Shiocton, and Mrs. Fred Riehl, Appleton. Six grandchildren also survive.

      Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral home from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 2 p.m. services Thursday afternoon. The Rev. Dascomb Forbush, pastor of Congregational church, will conduct the last rites at the funeral home and burial will be in Riverside cemetery.
