- Harry L. Hurst, Kaukauna, age 90, died on Friday January 2, 2015 at Parkside Care Center. He was born September 30, 1924 in Little Chute, son of the late Bernard and Mary (Jansen) Hurst. The 3rd born in a family of seven, Harry graduated from St. John High School in Little Chute in 1942 and St. Norbert's Collage in 1952 where he went under the G.I. Bill. On October 16, 1954 Harry married Dolores Elsner. The couple lived in Kaukauna their entire married lives. Harry served in the U.S. Army in WWII and fought in Belgium and Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge. On his return home he played for the Little Chute Semi-pro football team, the Flying Dutchmen. Harry worked for many different companies. He volunteered at 1000 Island Environmental Center and built many bird houses, he also volunteered at the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dolores; 2 sisters: Audrey (Gerald) Driessen, Little Chute and Jeanette (Tom) Vandehey, Kimberly; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hurst, Appleton; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is further survived by his wife's family: Carmen Elsner, Little Chute, Denise Koepke, Abilene, TX, and Norma Elsner, Shawano.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law: Willis and Nanna Elsner, brothers, Cletus (Gertrude), Kenneth ("Tiny"), Phillip, Floyd (Noreen and Cordell), a nephew, Steve Vandehey; in-laws: Lou Ellen Elsner and Willis Elsner Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial for Harry will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. Aloysius Church, 2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends will be received at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Kaukauna Area Catholic School System, 1000 Island Environmental Center or The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
