  • Notes
    • Age 74, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2004 after a lengthy illness. Harry was born in Kaukauna on August 22, 1929, son of the late Norbert and Johanna (Driessen) Hennes. As a young man, Harry began work for his father in his masonry business. Over the years, he operated the family business, Norbert Hennes & Sons that eventually became Harold Hennes Construction. Later, Harry operated HM Construction, which became a well-known area homebuilder. Harry retired in June of 1998. From 1951 to 1953, he served as a member of the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas. Harry was a former member of the B.P.O.E. in Kaukauna Lodge, the Kaukauna Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus where he was a past Grand Knight. He enjoyed spending time with and caring for his golden retriever Teddy, his horses, snowmobiling, boating, golfing, and hunting and fishing with his buddies Dave and Gordy. Everyone will remember Harry as a fun-loving and social man – wherever Harry was, good times were certain to be had.

Harry is survived by his wife: Lynn Hennes of Kaukauna; eight children: Bruce (Julie Cherf) Hennes of Greenville; Connie (Mike) Pynenberg of Menasha; Louise Hennes (Greg Johnson) of Kaukauna; Mimi (Gary) Gottschalk of Appleton; Mark (Carol) Hennes of Appleton; Mary (Dan) Szafranski of Freedom; Amy (Randy "Flip"_ DeBruin of Sherwood; two step-children: Shari (Bill) Carney of Highland Village, Texas and John Kummers of Shawano; twelve grandchildren: Aaron and Ryan Pynenberg; Justin and Sara Gottschalk; Jessica Szafranski; Mercedes, Matthew, and MacKenzie Hennes; Jack and Kaylyn Carney; Shelbey and Jovon Kummers; two sisters: Vivian (Gene) Martzahl of Kimberly and Rosella (Leo) Eimmerman of Kaukauna; two brothers: Duane (Mitzi) Hennes of Kaukauna and Tom (Rosalie) Hennes, DDS of Neenah; a brother-in-law; Norman Gerhartz of Kaukauna. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Rosalie Gerhartz, and a grandson Maxwell Hennes.

The funeral liturgy for Harry will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street in Combined Locks with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4- 8 PM and again at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until the hour of the liturgy. The family would like to extend their thanks to the New London Family Medical Center and the many physicians and their staffs who cared for Harry. Your care and kindness will never be forgotten.
