- Green, Harland [Newspaper Article Reads] - Family dispute KAUKAUNA AREA FATHER SHOT BY FORMER IN-LAW IN TEXAS BROWNWOOD, Texas - A rural Freedom man was shot and killed here by his former father-in-law Wednesday afternoon when he attempted to pick up his children by a former marriage. Harland Green, 34, 10653 Vanden Bosch Road, Kaukauna, was killed instantly by a single shot from a 20-gauge shotgun. A warrant charging first-degree murder has been issued for Clarence Holland, 65 of rural Brownwood. According to Brown County, Texas, sheriff's deputies, Holland suffered an apparent heart attack after the shooting and is hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Brownwood hospital. They said the warrant would be served when Holland is released from the hospital. According to the Brown County deputies, Green and his present wife, Shirley, arrived at his former father-in-law's house about eight miles north of here about 11 A.M. to pick up the four children for the summer. An extended argument apparently ensued and Green was shot once in the chest from a distance of 8-10 feet. Sheriff's deputies found him slumped in a dining room chair about 3 P.M. They aid the shooting apparently occurred between 2 and 2:30 P.M. Holland reported the shooting himself, deputies said. They said that neither Green's former wife nor his children were in the house at the time of the shooting. Brownwood is located about 100 miles south of Abilene in west-central Texas. Green was divorced from his first wife in October 1977, and she moved back to Texas about two years ago. He reportedly told friends before he left that he thought he might have difficulty in picking up the children for visitation. Green is survived by his wife, his mother, four children, three brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Monday at St Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, Wisconsin, Rev. Leander Nickles officiating. Friends may call at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Kaukauna, Wisconsin after 2 P.M. Sunday.
