      Garrity, Erving R.


      Erving R. Garrity, 91, De Pere, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born April 17, 1918, in Kaukauna, to the late James and Mary (Van Enkenvort) Garrity. He married Beverly Gildernick on Aug. 6, 1942, at Old St. Joe's Catholic Church in De Pere.

      Erving farmed for many years in the town of Lawrence. He also delivered the Green Bay Press-Gazette on a rural route, and he retired as a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and always kept up on his current events.

      Erving is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Beverly; two sons, William J. Garrity and Thomas E. (Joan) Garrity; grandchildren, Tina (Timothy) Garrity-Roffers, Daniel Garrity, Michael Woodworth and Connie Garrity; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Katie, Cassandra, and Rachael Micolichek, Samuel, Lillian, Ross, Jacob and Abagail Roffers, Nicholas Garrity, Alexa Woodworth-Hansen; brother, Albert J. Garrity; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patty Garrity; daughter-in-law, Sandra A. Garrity; grandchildren, William E. Garrity and Tyrelle Woodworth; brothers, George Garrity and John Garrity; and sisters, Rose Laux, Alice Hooymen, Ethel Hagens and Marie Garrity.

      In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation and the Macular Degeneration Eye Foundation.

      Family and friends may call Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church/ St. Clare Parish, 437 Main St., Wrightstown, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be at the church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Cotter Funeral is assisting the family with arrangements.
