- EMIL STEINER, CIVIC LEADER, DIES AFTER LENGTHY ILLNESS
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 8, for Emil J. Steiner, longtime Calumet County civic leader, who died on June 6, at Calumet Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Steiner, 71, of N2699 Highway 57, New Holstein, was well-known to area residents for many years of services as superintendent of the field crop and vegetable exhibits at the Calumet County Fair and as the treasurer of the Town of Charlestown. He gave up both positions when his health began to fail. His wife took over the treasurerÂ’s position.
He was born March 12, 1914, in Charlesburg, a son of the late John J. and Gertrude Wilberscheid Steiner.
On May 12, 1937, he and Theresa Thill were married at St. Mary Catholic Church, Stockbridge.
Mr. Steiner farmed in the town of Charlestown and was a carpenter for Wagner Builders of Chilton, Zarnoth Brush Works, Chilton, and a director and adjuster for Calumet Equity Mutual Insurance Company for 12 years.
He also served as Town of Charlestown treasurer for 37 years and as director for 40 years on the Calumet County Fair Board/
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chilton, its Holy Name Society, Mission Society and St. Joseph Society, as well as the Knights of Columbus of which he was past grand knight.
Mr. Steiner was a member of the Catholic Knights, Charlesburg Branch No. 118 and the Chilton Eagles Club, No. 1299.
Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Romaine) Soles-Kujawak of West Allis, Mrs. Semsettin (Roberta) Akalin of Kenosha, Rogene M. Steiner of Milwaukee and Mrs. Anthony J. (Rosalie) Slomski of Neenah.
