  • Notes
    • Emery owned a farm in Calumet county, which he sold to the State of Wisconsin. The state used this land to create part of High Cliff State Park. Only one building still remains form his farm, a brown wood shed which is used by the parks department as part of their maintanence workshops. The land that was once the farm is now part of the eastern esge of the park. Wilmer Schulz, a former neighbor and friend, said that Emery was known for being "quite the character" and that he was known for pulling pranks. Mr. Schulz said that they often played cards together with some of the neighboring farm families. He said that Emery was also a very smart man and that on one occation, Emery put a "car bomb" (a loud noise maker) into a car that belonged to one of his sons. When his son started up the car before taking a nieghbor woman home from church, the car made a loud "bang" and gave them pair a surprise.
