Elwood A. Hopfensperger " Hoppy ", from Freedom, age 65, passed Friday October 20, 1995. He was born September 15, 1930 in Darboy, the son of the late Matt & Valesca ( Stommel ) Hopfensperger. On October 4, 1952 he married the former Joan Wichman and they enjoyed 32 years of marriage until her death on June 18, 1985. Elwood was a lifetime farmer and was also employed by Nash Finch for 36 years until his retirement in 1994. His favorite pasttimes included building giant jigsaw puzzles and his annual fishing trip to Canada with his brother-in-law, Johnny. Survivors; three children; Marsha (Steve) Smith, Bruce (Cathy) Hopfensperger, and Deanne (Roger) Abel, all of Freedom; eight grandchildren; Justin and Candice Hendrickson, Chelsea Smith, B.J., Andy and David Hopfensperger, Amanda and Amber Abel; seven sisters and three brothers; Jean Hoffman, Appleton; Ernesta Wysocki, Milwaukee; Gregg (Bonnie) Hopfensperger, Forest Junction; Geneva (Johnny) Hanges, Appleton; Carl (Carolyn) Hopfensperger, Albany, Indiana; Ranetta Voight, Neenah; Charolette (Tony) Guckenberger, Appleton; Donna (Joe) Bouressa, Green Bay; Jim (Joyce) Hopfensperger, Black Creek; Sharon Hopfensperger, Menasha; two sisters in-law; Irene Hopfensperger, Modesto, Ca.; Joan Hopfensperger, Appleton; his mother in-law, Vera (Irv) Hertzfeldt, Appleton; two brothers in-law; Ken (Joyce) Wichman, Appleton; Wesley, Audrey Wichman, Littleton, Co.
Elwood was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carla; two brothers; Matt and Edgar Hopfensperger and three brothers in-law; John Hoffmen, Art Wysocki and Bob Voight.
Complete funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, October 23, 1995 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., with Rev. Duane Ullrich of Freedom Moravian Church officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday directly at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the hour of services. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hagen and the staff at Colony Oaks Care Center for their help and concern.
